LLCC administers proficiency exams (for LLCC students only). LLCC also administers CLEP and DSST exams (for the community).

Costs

The total cost to test is $108.

  • $93 is due to CLEP for the exam (paid to CLEP day of registration).
  • $15 is due to LLCC for administration (cash, check/money order day of test).

Facts about CLEP testing

  • All CLEP exams are administered on a computer.
  • Examinees have a maximum of 90 minutes to complete the test.
  • College Composition is a maximum of 120 minutes.
  • Results are available immediately upon completion (except for College Composition). Therefore, you will know your results right away.
  • Most CLEP tests consist of multiple-choice questions. Exceptions include writing an essay in College Composition, and some mathematics exams include completion questions.
  • You must wait three months before retaking an exam.
  • LLCC serves as a military-friendly test center for CLEP.
  • Those who successfully complete a CLEP examination may receive college credit when they meet or exceed the ACE recommended score.
  • At LLCC, up to 30 hours of CLEP credit can be applied toward your degree.
  • When you complete an exam, you will be provided a print out of the unofficial test results. Official test results are mailed by CLEP directly to the institution you indicate during registration.
  • In order to receive credit, score reports must be received by the credit granting institution directly from the College Board. Additional score reports are ordered through CLEP for a fee.

The DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) program gives students the opportunity to receive proficiency credit for learning acquired outside the traditional college classroom. This is a Prometric program delivered by colleges and universities throughout the United States.

There are several study tools available to prep for an examination. Exam descriptions and sample questions are available on the DSST website. Online DSST practice exams and comprehensive study courses can also be purchased. View the official DSST test preparation guide. 

Costs

The total cost to test is $115.

  • $100 is payable to DSST by credit card on the day of the exam.
  • A $15 administration fee is due to LLCC. This can be paid by cash or money order.

Facts about DSST Testing

  • There are 37 DSST exams in the areas of Social Science, Business, Mathematics, Applied Technology, Humanities and Physical Science.
  • Examinees have a maximum of two hours to complete the test. 
  • There is a wait period of 30 days before you can retake any DSST examination. 
  • You will be asked to provide the correct DSST school code at the time of your test. View directory of colleges and universities. 
  • There is a $30 fee to have a transcript sent to your college/university.
  • LLCC does not accept DSST scores for proficiency credit.
