SPRINGFIELD – Lincoln Land Community College today announced a new accelerated degree program that will allow participants to earn an associate of arts degree within a period of 14 months.

The ASAP (Accelerated Success Associate Program) will kick off in May 2009 with students completing the program in July 2010. Classes will be scheduled two nights per week and include an online component. This interdisciplinary, affordable and easily transferrable degree is designed to cater to the needs of the working adult.

ASAP information sessions are scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. in the LLCC Workforce Development Building and Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Robert H. Stephens Room of Menard Hall. Reservations for these information sessions are being accepted at www.llcc.edu/asap.

Holly Whisler, LLCC cohort programs coordinator, says ASAP offers a fast track to an associate degree, in addition to convenience. “ASAP classes will meet for a 14-month period, on Monday and Thursday evenings, in the Workforce Development Building on the main LLCC campus. This schedule will remain consistent for the duration of the program. Parking is ample and easily accessible.”

She added that the program has been designed to be practical and supportive of students. “Students are encouraged to contribute their life and work experience to their classroom discussions. Coursework is immediately applicable to the working world. Students will gain experience with today’s cutting-edge technology as these courses are hybrids, which blend the benefits of online learning and face-to-face interaction.

“The program works on a cohort model which allows the initial group of students to travel through a set of pre-determined courses together. We anticipate that lasting friendships will be made and ultimately, this inaugural class will walk across the graduation stage together in 2010.”

ASAP students will have the advantage of individualized attention and academic advising from the program coordinator and other support personnel at LLCC. Financial aid is available to those who quality, and veterans’ benefits are welcome.
