Located on the Caribbean coast of Central America between Mexico and Guatemala, Belize is one of the most ecologically and culturally diverse areas of the world.  Belize boasts the longest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere with a lush tropical rainforest, and exotic tropical flora and fauna.  More than 4,000 different species of native flowering plants are found within its borders and more than 70 percent of the country is under some form of forest cover.  Belize is excellent for bird-watching with more than 530 species.

The ethnic diversity represented in Belize ranges from Creole and Anglo-European to Mestizo and Garifuna to Mayan and Middle Eastern.  English is the official language while other spoken languages include Spanish, Creole, German, Mayan and Garifuna.  Although Belize became an independent nation in 1981, the country has a rich history in its many ancient Maya sites.

LLCC’s program is based in Belmopan, the capital of Belize, in conjunction with the Sibun Education and Adventure Lodge.
