Considering a Lincoln Land Community College online course? You will need to have Internet access as well as a current email account and browser software. This can include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, or any other standard browser. Online students need to have access to a computer with a reliable Internet connection. Students must also possess the necessary technical skills to navigate the Internet, as well as understand basic computing, email services, and word processing.
Online students can use their home computer or one of the computers in the LLCC computer labs on campus or at one of the College’s regional education centers.
All online students will be required to use their LLCC email address in Blackboard.
It is recommended that students wishing to take an online class register by May 21, 2010 for the Summer 2010 semester and by August 13 for the Fall 2010 semester.
LLCC online courses are content oriented classes. These courses are comparable to traditional classes. Be prepared to read assignments, ask and answer questions, participate in discussions, take tests and communicate with your classmates and instructor online.
This semester we will be offering online courses using three different section numbers.
· OL courses are regular Internet-based classes which will may use Blackboard for course work, communications with your instructor, and testing.
· OE courses are online classes with the added bonus of face to face help if needed. The Computer Flex Center offers help on an “as needed” basis. OE courses operate on the Short Semester schedule.
· HY (hybrid) courses are part online and part face to face. A large amount of work will be completed online but there will be scheduled meeting times for you to meet with your instructor throughout the semester. Click here for a list of all Spring 2010 courses offered in a hybrid format.
Successful online students:
Are open minded and willing to participate in their learning experience
An online student must assume an active role in their learning process and understand the important characteristics necessary to succeed.
Are comfortable communicating through writing
Virtually all communication in the online classroom occurs in writing and it is important that online students are prepared to express themselves in writing.
Are self-motivated and self–disciplined
While online classes provide students with the convenience and flexibility to attend college from almost anywhere, there is an added level of student responsibility to maintain the pace of the course work and to complete assignments on time.
Are able to commit the time to an online class
It is important that students enrolling in online courses recognized that these courses require an equivalent amount of time, study, reading and assignment completion as traditional courses. Online students need to be prepared to commit this amount of time to each course.
Possess the necessary technical skills
It is essential that an online student already has the skills to navigate the Internet, as well understands basic computing, email functions, and word processing
