Lincoln Land Community College is hosting a daylong seminar about professional interpretation of history, nature and culture. “Creating Character” is being held Saturday, Feb. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Trutter Center on LLCC’s Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.
A dozen interpreters and professionals will share experiences and advice on oral interpretation for historical, cultural and nature sites. In addition, Fred Puglia, executive director of the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau, will provide opening remarks. Ken Bradbury, actor, playwright, songwriter, musician and teacher, is the featured luncheon speaker presenting “Music Speaks Too!”
Workshops include: “How I Did It: Becoming the Person I Interpret!,” “It Doesn’t Speak—I’m Its Interpreter,” “Hints From the World of Acting,” and “Interacting and Responding to the Visitor/Audience.”
Presenters include: Jeannie Alexander, interpreter of Mary Hunter Austin; James Cornelius, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum; Robert F. Crosby II, Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition, Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area; Karen Everingham, Illinois Historic Preservation Agency; Tim Guinan, Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site; Becky Irwin, Lincoln Memorial Gardens; Fritz Klein, interpreter of Abraham Lincoln; Jackie Peeler, Henson Robinson Zoo; Kim Rosendahl, Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau; Charlie Starling, retired interpreter of Mentor Graham; Judy Wagenblast, LLCC; and Dr. Marcia Young, David Davis Mansion State Historic Site.
