The Lincoln Land Community College Green Center is sponsoring the 2011 Green Fair on Thursday, Oct. 20 in recognition of National Campus Sustainability Day. The free event is being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Trutter Center on the LLCC campus, 5250 Shepherd Road, Springfield. The public is invited.
The event will feature exhibits, live entertainment, 20-minute mini “green” workshops and giveaways. Guests can see solar panel displays, an energy bike demonstrating energy usage, artwork created by Lincoln Land students using recycling materials and more. A series of 20-minute mini “green” workshops are being scheduled to help people learn about a variety of sustainability-related topics. Local musicians Tom Irwin and Theresa O’Hare will perform during the event.
In celebration of Food Day (a national celebration to push for healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way), the Green Fair will include a special section devoted to groups and organizations associated with local food and sustainable agriculture. Food tastings will be available.
Participating exhibitors include Illinois Stewardship Alliance, Community Energy Systems, CWLP Energy Services Office, Central Illinois Community Blood Center, City of Springfield Division of Waste and Recycling, Green Business Network of Springfield, University of Illinois Extension, University of Illinois Master Gardeners, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois, Jubilee Farm, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Sustainable Springfield, University of Illinois at Springfield Environmental Studies department, Students Allied for a Greener Earth (SAGE), Central Illinois Wind and Solar, Solar Universe, Slow Food Springfield, a variety of Lincoln Land Community College clubs and organizations, and more.
