SPRINGFIELD—Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) in partnership with the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) celebrated the opening of the newly established Veterans Services Office at LLCC June 17. LLCC was chosen as one of only a few locations throughout the state to offer this new service to veterans.

The newly established Veterans Services Office is staffed by a veterans services officer from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in room 1135 of Menard Hall. Veterans can obtain information about educational benefits such as the Post-9/11 GI Bill, in addition to state and federal veterans benefits such as Veterans Care health insurance, job tax credits, the Illinois Warrior Assistance program and other services.

According to Lee Bursi, LLCC assistant vice president of financial aid, “The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is really working hard to reach out to veterans. Through the Veterans Services Office, area veterans attending LLCC or any of the other local educational institutions have the opportunity to meet with a knowledgeable counselor right here on the LLCC campus. The veterans counselor can provide information on all benefits. Our office is especially grateful to have assistance explaining education benefits, particularly the new Post-9/11 GI bill.”

For more information about the Veterans Services Office, contact LLCC’s Veterans Affairs at 786.2216.
