now through July 29
The James S. Murray Gallery at Lincoln Land Community College will feature the annual membership show of the Illinois Prairie Pastel Society June 9 through July 29. The exhibit is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the gallery located on the second floor of Menard Hall at the LLCC-Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.
In 2006, six Springfield pastel artists joined together to form the Springfield Area Pastelists. By 2009, the group had grown to 20 members and formally organized as the Illinois Prairie Pastel Society, establishing bylaws and affiliating with the International Association of Pastel Societies.
Currently the society has more than 40 members, most of whom are located in the central Illinois area. Many of the members meet weekly to paint at the Springfield Art Association. The group’s mission includes promoting and fostering creative painting with pastels, in addition to encouraging pastel artists in their growth and success. Workshops are held each year presented by local members and others who are nationally or internationally known.
