LLCC Recital Series Concert Nov. 12
|
The Lincoln Land Community College Recital Series continues Sunday, November 12 with a performance featuring two pianists and the Springfield Choral Society.
The free concert, entitled “A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL: One Piano, Four Hands, 20 Voices,” will take place at 4:00 p.m. in room 212 of Menard Hall on the LLCC campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.
Pianists are Alice Edwards and Jennifer Parker accompanying the Springfield Choral Society, under the direction of Marion van der Loo. Selections include pieces by Mozart, Bizet and Brahms.
Alice Edwards is currently active in the Springfield area as an organist (The Cathedral Church of St. Paul), teacher (Lincoln Land Community College), and accompanist (The Illinois Symphony Chorus, Prairieland Voices, One Voice Chicago, Millikin University and others). Recent performances have included a harpsichord concerto with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and solo piano, harpsichord and organ recitals. For thirty years, Ms. Edwards was on the piano faculty of Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Illinois.
Jennifer Parker has performed in concerts as soloist and accompanist in the United States and in Europe. She received a master’s degree in piano performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and began doctoral studies there. She has studied at the Aspen School of Music, L’Ecole Normale de Musique du Alfred Cortot in Paris, France, the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, and others. Ms. Parker is currently a practicing attorney in Springfield.
Marion van der Loo is in her second season as music director and conductor of the Springfield Choral Society. Her first season was marked by standing-room-only audiences and enthusiastic reviews. She is also founding artistic director and conductor of Prairieland Voices, a chamber chorus dedicated largely to the performance of music of the Renaissance. For ten years, Ms. van der Loo served as director of music at the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, and for 12 years as conductor of The Illinois Symphony Chorus.
The Springfield Choral Society is in its 37th year as a strong presence on Springfield’s music scene. It is now 50 members strong and presents music of every period and style. The Choral Society performed the Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzes at its Spring 2006 concert. On December 2, 2006, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, they will present “Merrily on High,” a concert of seasonal music.
