LLCC commencement ceremony slated for Friday, May 18

SPRINGFIELD – Lincoln Land Community College will conduct its annual commencement ceremony Friday evening, May 18, at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield. Charlotte Warren, Ph.D., sixth president of the college, will preside over the ceremony, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

In celebration of the college’s 40th anniversary, this year’s ceremony will feature two LLCC outstanding alumni as honorees: LLCC alumna Renee Romano, Ph.D. and alumnus John Kulek. Romano graduated from LLCC with high honors in the class of 1975. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and a Ph.D. in higher education from Iowa State University. Romano currently serves as vice chancellor of student affairs at the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign. Kulek graduated with honors in the class of 1998 with an associate in applied science degree in fire science technology and currently serves as fire chief for the Springfield Fire Department.

Delivering the commencement address will be 2007 graduate Trisha Hoffman, of Beardstown. Hoffman is graduating with high honors receiving an associate in arts degree in speech with an emphasis in public relations. She plans to transfer to Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville majoring in speech communication.

Serving as student marshals for the event are Cora Embalabala, of Athens, and Mary Pelich, of Springfield. Both students are graduating with high honors and serving as representatives of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges.

More than 1,600 students are eligible to receive degrees and certificates. The LLCC Board of Trustees will award graduates with degrees including the associate in arts, associate in science, associate in applied science, associate in general education, associate in fine arts and associate in engineering science, along with certificates of achievement and certificates of completion.

LLCC’s Alumni Services will sponsor a reception for graduates and their guests immediately following the ceremony.
