LLCC offers summer youth athletic camps

SPRINGFIELD—The Lincoln Land Community College athletics department is offering a variety of youth athletic camps for summer 2007. The following camps are being offered:
Girls Volleyball Junior High Camp (players entering grades 6 through 8) • June 11 through 14, 8:15-11 a.m., This four-day camp will emphasize the skills and fundamentals necessary to be a successful volleyball player at all levels. Camp director is Jim Dietz, LLCC women’s volleyball coach. Cost is $70.
Girls Softball Fundamentals Camp (ages 6-18) • June 11 through 14, 11:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m., This camp covers all aspects of the game, both physical and mental—pitching, hitting, running, bunting, fielding, throwing, catching, positional play and conditioning. In addition to improving technical skills, the camp is designed to improve the tactical knowledge of each camper. Cost is $70.
Pitchers/Catchers Camp (ages 6-18) • June 25 through 28, 11:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m. This camp meets the various needs of beginning, started and advanced pitchers and catchers. They learn the basics of pitching and catching positions with emphasis on technique and style development. Instruction for started pitchers/catchers focuses on techniques already developed, good pitching/catching habits, and defensive and offensive aspects of the respective positions. Advanced players focus on the correlation between pitchers and catchers as well as specific pitching/catching skills. Pitchers work on throwing rises, curves and drops. Emphasis for catchers is on positional skills as well as reading batters. Cost is $70.
Softball camps will be directed by Jim Davis, LLCC head softball coach; Deb Reznicek, professional softball pitcher; and Maria Reznicek Jr., ASA pitcher/player and former Lady Logger.
Baseball Fundamentals Camp (ages 8-18) • June 18 through 21, 8:15-11 a.m. The emphasis is on learning and understanding the fundamentals of the game. Campers will practice their swing, fielding ground balls and fly balls, base running and more. Hitters will utilize the batting tee, ball toss and live pitching. Cost is $70.
Pitchers/Catchers Camp (ages 8-18) • June 18 through 21, 11:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m. This camp is designed to help aspiring pitchers and catchers develop specific skills for their respective positions. Instruction concentrates on the proper throwing mechanics to ensure less strain on the pitcher’s arm and rotator cuff. Pitchers also are instructed and drilled on proper fielding techniques. Catchers learn proper techniques of giving signals, setting up, receiving and framing a pitch, blocking, throwing and catching pop-ups. Cost is $70.
Baseball camps will be directed by Ron Riggle, LLCC head baseball coach. Members of the LLCC baseball team will serve as counselors for the camps. All sessions are devoted to the development of individual skills.
Boys and Girls Basketball Fundamentals Camps Girls Fundamentals Camp (ages 8-18) • June 18 through 21, 8:15-11 a.m. Boys Fundamentals Camp (ages 8-18) • July 9 through 12, 8:15-11 a.m. Fundamentals camp is designed to teach youth the fundamentals that broaden their knowledge of the game. Drills and games are modified to fit different age groups. The last 20 minutes of camp are saved for competition. One-on-one and free throw competitions also will be held. Cost is $70.
Shooting Camps Girls Shooting Camp (ages 8-18) • June 18 through 21, noon-2 p.m. Boys Shooting Camp (ages 8-18) • July 9 through 12, noon-2 p.m.
In shooting camp, participants learn proper techniques as well as basic, one-on-one moves on offense. Campers will learn: to focus on the target, the triple threat position, to face up with the jumper, to read the defense when shooting, shooting off and reading screens, and free throw techniques. Cost is $50.
Boys basketball camps will be directed by Chad Jones, LLCC men’s basketball coach, with members of the men’s basketball team assisting. Girls basketball camps will be directed by Jill Barclay, LLCC women’s basketball coach, with LLCC women’s basketball team members assisting.
