SPRINGFIELD – The Lincoln Land Community College Board of Trustees met Wednesday, June 13 to interview candidates to fill the board vacancy representing Sub-district 4, which includes parts of eastern Sangamon, Christian, Logan, DeWitt and Macon counties. Daniel W. Austin of Taylorville was selected to fill the seat that was declared vacant May 14 when elected candidate Andy Goleman was not present to take the oath of office.
Roger Rutherford, LLCC Board chairman, stated, “All five candidates were outstanding. It was a difficult decision. Mr. Austin has been affiliated with the college for the past 15 years serving in different capacities. He is a respected professional in the Taylorville community.”
Austin is a practicing attorney in Taylorville. He currently serves as president of the LLCC Eastern Region Education Center Advisory Board in addition to Christian County Crimestoppers. He is a member of the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees and Assembly of the Illinois State Bar Association. He has served as president for other non-profit agencies including: Taylorville Industrial Development Corporation, Taylorville Chamber of Commerce, Christian County Bar Association, Taylorville Sertoma Club and Millikin University Parents Association.
The Board plans to seat Mr. Austin at their next meeting Wednesday, June 20.
Other candidates interviewed for the board vacancy included: Karon C. McGrath of Rochester, Penny L. McCarty of Williamsville, Amy K. Hagen of Taylorville, and Richard T. Wilson of Taylorville.
