LLCC Board of Trustees seats new board member

The Lincoln Land Community College Board of Trustees met Wednesday, June 13 to interview candidates to fill the board vacancy representing Sub-district 4, which includes parts of eastern Sangamon, Christian, Logan, DeWitt and Macon counties. Daniel W. Austin of Taylorville was selected to fill the seat that was declared vacant May 14 when elected candidate Andy Goleman was not present to take the oath of office.

Roger Rutherford, LLCC Board chairman, stated, “All five candidates were outstanding. Mr. Austin has been affiliated with the college for the past 15 years serving in different capacities. He is a well-respected professional in the Taylorville community.”

Austin is a practicing attorney in Taylorville. He currently serves as chairman of the LLCC Eastern Region Education Center Advisory Board and as president of the Christian County Crimestoppers. Austin is a member the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees and Assembly of the Illinois State Bar Association. He has extensive experience in serving as president for other non-profit agencies including: Taylorville Industrial Development Corporation, Taylorville Chamber of Commerce, Christian County Bar Association, Taylorville Sertoma Club and Millikin University Parents Association.

Mr. Austin was sworn in at the June 20 meeting.

Other candidates interviewed for the board vacancy included: Karon C. McGrath of Rochester, Penny L. McCarty of Williamsville, Amy K. Hagen of Taylorville, and Richard T. Wilson of Taylorville.
