Artworks of Benjamin Gardner on display at LLCC Murray Gallery

SPRINGFIELD – The James S. Murray Gallery at Lincoln Land Community College opens its fall gallery season with the mixed media works of Benjamin Gardner, assistant professor of art at Illinois State University.

The show, entitled “The Reflecting Subject,” will be on display through September 13 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Gallery is located on the second floor of Menard Hall on the main campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.

Gardner’s mixed media paintings are notes in a conversation between inside and outside, physically and psychologically. He combines the physical and gestural act of painting with collaged ephemera: actual letters, envelopes, church bulletins, airplane tickets, etc. His imagery focuses on the objects that occupy the spaces of seemingly empty rooms as a metaphor for the “objects” that take up residence in our own psychological spaces.

Gardner holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from Illinois State University, where he currently teaches.
