Lincoln Land Community College’s Western Region Education Center (WREC) in Jacksonville has named Sharon L. Mather of Jacksonville as the Center’s new assistant director. Ms. Mather begins her new duties October 1. She is currently director of alumni services at MacMurray College, where she has worked for the past 14 years in various positions including administrative assistant to the president, administrative assistant to the vice president for development, and instructor for Mac 101, part of the First Year Experience program. She holds a bachelor of science degree in psychology from MacMurray, where she graduated summa cum laude in 2003. As assistant director of the WREC, Ms. Mather will assist Executive Director Jan Terry in planning, budgeting, staff supervision and daily operation of the Center. She will plan and implement student services including admissions, assessment testing, academic advisement, financial aid, personal and employment counseling. She will also design recruitment strategies for local high schools; market and coordinate contract training with local business and industry; and coordinate community education for the region. Ms. Terry commented, “We know Sharon’s experience, creativity, energy and genuine love for students will greatly benefit our students and all of the residents of the western region.” Ms. Mather feels her personal experience as a “nontraditional-aged” college student, as well as her current role as advisor to two MacMurray student groups, will serve her well in her new position. “What I am most looking forward to is working with Lincoln Land students of all ages. I can relate to adults who are returning to the classroom after some time away, as well as the students coming straight from high school.” Ms. Mather replaces Larry Armstrong, who recently retired.
