LLCC offering variety of healthcare continuing education courses

SPRINGFIELD–Lincoln Land Community College’s Capital City Center is offering a variety of healthcare continuing education courses for the spring semester. All courses are held at the LLCC Capital City Center at 130 W. Mason St., Springfield, unless otherwise indicated. The following courses are being offered:
Pharmacy Technician • Tuesdays and Thursdays, Mar. 4-May 22; 6 to 9 p.m. This is a 75-hour course designed to teach students the fundamentals of being a pharmacy technician. The class introduces students to various pharmacy practice settings and covers drug classes, basic physiology, drug interactions and daily pharmacy operations. Cost is $975 and includes textbooks and lab materials.
Beginning Spanish for the Healthcare Professional • Fridays, Mar. 7, 14, 21 and 28; 9 to 11:30 a.m. This course is designed for a variety of medical and support professionals including doctors, nurses, technicians and administrative associates. The purpose is to help connect and communicate with Spanish-speaking patients to treat illness and injury and to process medical transactions efficiently and effectively. No prior Spanish is required. Cost is $250 and includes book and certificate of completion.
CNA Instructor Course • Mar. 17-21, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This five-day course for registered nurses is designed to train participants on becoming a certified nurse aide instructor in Illinois. The course is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health and successful completion will qualify registered nurses to develop and teach the Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program. Cost is $375.
To Pee or Not to Pee¬–Renal Update • Wednesday, March 26; 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Northfield Inn and Suites, 3280 Northfield Dr., Springfield. This one-day seminar taught by Barb Bancroft, RN, MSN, PNP, reviews the anatomy and physiology of the kidney correlated with structural and functional conditions. A number of disease processes in addition to the effects of aging and the effects of drugs will be discussed. Cost is $100 and includes handouts, lunch and certificate of completion.
Basic Rehabilitation/Restorative Nursing • April 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17 and 18; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Trutter Center, LLCC main campus, 5250 Shepherd Road, Springfield. This eight-day course, which is open to registered and licensed practical nurses, meets long-term care Illinois Department of Public Health requirements. Cost is $450.
Physical Rehab Aide • Thursday through Saturday, Apr. 10-12; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This course includes discussion of purpose, philosophy, terminology, common functional duties associated with the provision of services and disease process. Students must be a CNA, registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. Cost is $250.
CNA Instructor Conference 2008 • Friday, Apr. 18; 8:30 a.m.-4:45 p.m.; Northfield Inn and Suites, 3280 Northfield Dr., Springfield. This one-day conference will feature internationally renowned presenter, author and educator Michele Deck, who will present “The Latest and Greatest Ways to Teach CNAs.” This keynote will address today’s learners as consumers of television and the media and how to adapt to that trend to thrive as educators. Cost is $80.
Lean Healthcare • Thursday, May 8; 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants will learn about Lean Manufacturing methods to help boost productivity, cut wasted motion and wasted communication among other methods to benefit the operation of healthcare organizations. Cost is $125 and includes handouts and certificate of completion.
