SPRINGFIELD—Lincoln Land Community College’s Capital City Center is offering a pharmacy technician course that begins March 4 and runs through May 22.  The course will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at LLCC’s Capital City Center, 130 West Mason, Springfield.

This 75-hour course is designed to teach students the fundamentals and particulars of being a pharmacy technician.  Healthcare workers wanting to enhance their knowledge of prescription drugs, students interested in being a pharmacy technician and future pharmacists can benefit from the program, which includes training in pharmacy math, generics, pharmacy law and interpreting prescriptions.  The class also introduces students to various pharmacy practice settings and covers drug classes and interactions, daily pharmacy operations and basic physiology.  Upon completion of this course, students will be efficient in completing daily tasks performed in a pharmacy setting and be prepared for entry-level pharmacy positions.

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists, including filling, packaging and distributing medications, and maintaining patient records and inventory.  Chain retail pharmacies, hospitals and home healthcare pharmacies typically employ pharmacy technicians.

Students must have a high school diploma or GED.  For more information or to register, call Lindee Hall at 217.524.6749.
