Registration open for EMT first responder training at WREC

Persons interested in become emergency medical first responders are invited to register for an Emergency Medical Technician (EMS 101) training course to be offered in Jacksonville at Lincoln Land Community College’s Western Region Education Center.

The class begins January 17 and will meet at the Center, 32 N. Central Park Plaza, on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9:50 p.m.

EMS 101 is the entry level course in the field of Emergency Medical Services and is a pre-requisite to the Paramedic program, which is also offered in Jacksonville. This certificate program teaches the basics of becoming a first responder in medical emergencies. The course addresses current practices and concepts of pre-hospital emergency care.

There are no special admissions procedures for the EMT program, but students must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED before being allowed to sit for the national examination.

Although it varies by location, salary ranges for those completing the Paramedic program range from $19,000 to $60,000.
