SPRINGFIELD–The writing and artwork of students at Lincoln Land Community College will be showcased at the 18th Annual Harvester Readings, Tuesday, April 15, at 7 p.m. and again Wednesday, April 16, at noon and 7 p.m. This event to acknowledge the 37th edition will be held in the Trutter Center on the college’s main campus at 5250 Shepherd Road in Springfield. The event is free of charge and the public is invited.
English and Humanities instructors “harvest” or submit writings by their students from the past school year for The Harvester. Professor Gloria Kirby, faculty editor, then compiles the best of the best into the department’s annual magazine. Starting 18 years ago, the publication is celebrated with students reading their essays to family and friends. This edition of 40 writers celebrates the English and Humanities Department courses: developmental composition, college-credit composition 111-112, dual credit (for high school students taking college credit), philosophy, humanities and literature. This edition also recognizes 10 student artists in LLCC’s Fine Arts program with LLCC art professors Leslie Stalter, Thom Whalen and Al Shull.
