"Sounds of Europe" concert May 4 is final in '07-'08 LLCC recital series

“Sounds of Europe,” featuring Kamen Petkov on violin and Alyssa Kuhn on piano, will be presented Sunday, May 4 at 4:00 p.m. in the Trutter Center at Lincoln Land Community College. The free concert will wrap up the 2007-08 Recital Series at LLCC. The public is cordially invited.

Mr..Petkov has performed extensively in solo concerts and recitals in Bulgaria, Malta and the U.S. He has also performed with many orchestras around the world such as Sofia Symphony Orchestra, Malta National Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Chamber Orchestra, Missouri Chamber Orchestra, Illinois Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. He is currently the orchestras manager for the Illinois Symphony and Chamber Orchestras as well as a violinist in both ensembles.

He began studying violin at age of seven in his hometown of Gabrovo, Bulgaria. He continued his violin studies in Bulgaria and Malta. He moved to the U.S. in 1994 and earned a bachelor's degree in music business and master of music degree in performance from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Alyssa Kuhn has performed in the LLCC Chamber Orchestra (now Springfield Community Orchestra) for six years and served as concertmaster of that ensemble for three years. She has performed violin recitals at many venues in Springfield and as piano accompanist to Kamen Petkov. She also coaches two violin sections for the Sangamon Valley Youth Orchestra, teaches starter strings in Pleasant Plains, and teaches violin and piano privately. She is presently establishing a Chamber Music Society for Springfield, to be known as The Medici Chamber Music Society of Illinois. A graduate of SUNY-Binghamton and Carnegie-Mellon University, she majored in music with a concentration in bassoon studies.
