Susanne Brown named Outstanding Graduate

Susanne Brown of Springfield was named Outstanding Graduate of the Year at Lincoln Land Community College during the 2008 Graduates Breakfast held this morning, May 16, at the Springfield Hilton.

Ms. Brown, a graduate of Taylorville High School, was honored for her academic achievements, leadership, motivation, service to the college community, participation in extracurricular activities and ability to overcome obstacles.

She has been very active in the Student Government Association at LLCC, serving as president for two terms, vice president and student representative, as well as interim student trustee on the LLCC Board of Trustees. She also participated as a member of the LLCC College Council and Capital Projects Team and represented the college at Community College Student Lobby Day, three student leadership conferences, the Illinois State Senate Forum on Intergenerational Leadership, and the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast.

Ms. Brown is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, the National Dean’s List and the United States Achievement Academy. She is employed in the LLCC Student Life Office and has volunteered at numerous LLCC events including the 40th Anniversary Founders Day Community Celebration, two LLCC Foundation Galas, and several photo and video shoots for the LLCC Public Relations and Marketing Office.

She plans to transfer to the University of Illinois at Springfield and major in communications with a minor in business.

The person who nominated her for the award wrote, “I continue to be amazed at the level of maturity, professionalism and confidence she demonstrates at such a young age. She epitomizes what LLCC strives to do in our community.”

Ms. Brown will receive her associate in arts degree this evening at the LLCC Commencement Ceremony at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.
