Multi-Cultural Fest Nov. 8

Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) is hosting its third annual Multi-Cultural Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8. The event will be held in the Trutter Center on LLCC’s main campus, 5250 Shepherd Road, Springfield. The event is free and open to the public.
The Fest will feature a variety of food, booths and entertainment celebrating various cultures from all over the world. Groups participating include: Sister Cities Association of Springfield, Springfield Commission on International Exchanges, World Affairs Council of Central Illinois, Central Illinois Native American Flute Circle, Sons of Norway, Project Next Generation Grant and Spanish American Cultural Center. In addition, various community representatives and LLCC programs and student clubs will provide information about a variety of other cultures. Information will be available on Mexico, Africa, Bolivia, Columbia, France, Germany, Greece, Morocco, India, Ireland, Kenya, Japan, Norway, Dominican Republic and others.
Springfield restaurants providing samples of ethnic foods include: Gateway to India, Magic Kitchen Thai Restaurants, Holy Land Diner, Clay’s Popeye’s Bar-B-Que, Belle Milano and La Mex. Food will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In addition to the informational displays and food, the entertainment line-up includes The Dorians. The Dorians, performing at noon and 1 p.m., are a three-member band based in Carbondale, Illinois. They specialize in dance music from the Celtic traditions of Ireland and Scotland, and songs from Ireland, Scotland, England, and North America. Other entertainers include Darrell Davis, rhythm and blues musician; Team Heartless, a group performing hip-hop and rap; and Tom Irwin, a well-known local folk musician.
