Free classes for high school students - special scholarships available now

High school students in the Lincoln Land Community College District are invited to apply for Special Admissions Scholarships that will pay for up to six credit hours of tuition for college classes at Lincoln Land during the spring, 2007 semester.

“This means a high school student can take one or two courses with no tuition charge this spring,” said LLCC Admissions Director Ron Gregoire. “This is a tremendous opportunity for any high school student who wants to get a head start on college.”

“These scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis,” added Gregoire. “The scholarships are funded through a state grant, so we encourage interested students to register for a course or two and apply for the scholarship early before the scholarship funds are depleted.”

The scholarships are available for classes taught at all LLCC locations including the main campus in Springfield, the East Springfield Learning Center, Eastern Region Education Center in Taylorville, Western Region Education Center in Jacksonville and Beardstown, and Southern Region Education Center in Litchfield and Hillsboro.

Informational brochures and applications for the Special Admissions Scholarships are available at any high school guidance counselor’s office, at the LLCC main campus, East Springfield Learning Center or at LLCC Regional Education Centers.

High school students, who must be at least 16, should first apply for admission and register for at least one course at Lincoln Land before applying for the special scholarships. Registration for spring classes begins November 1, but applications for admission and placement testing can begin immediately, according to Gregoire.

Questions regarding the Special Admissions Scholarships should be directed to LLCC Admissions at 786.2298, extension 5, or any LLCC regional center.
