New Barry Tinsley sculpture to be dedicated Wed., Nov. 15
|
A new outdoor sculpture by Illinois artist Barry Tinsley on the campus of Lincoln Land Community College will be named and dedicated at an afternoon ceremony Wednesday, November 15. The public is invited to attend the 1:00 p.m. event with refreshments and conversation with the artist to follow in the Millennium Center.
The name of the sculpture will be revealed by the artist at the ceremony, which will take place in front of the sculpture, weather permitting. The sculpture was installed by Mr. Tinsley yesterday, November 8, on the campus lawn north of the Millennium Center. (In case of inclement weather, the dedication will be moved to the Millennium Center.)
Mr. Tinsley, of Chicago, is a well-known artist whose work is included in many public, private and corporate collections. His work can also be seen on the campus of the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign, in the Chicago area and throughout the U.S., at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. and across Europe.
The sculpture at Lincoln Land Community College was made possible through the Illinois Art-in-Architecture program. Created in 1977, the state program works to promote and preserve the arts of Illinois by securing artwork of all media for public buildings constructed with state funds. Lincoln Land was able to pool Art-in-Architecture funds from a number of construction projects over the past seven years in order to acquire this substantial outdoor work of art.
Following the event, visitors are also invited to also view the new exhibit, “Cultural Stories,” at the LLCC Trutter Museum and an exhibit of paintings by Tennessee artist Erin Anfinson in the James Murray Gallery of Menard Hall. | Posted on Thursday, November 09, 2006
