Public invited to April 22 recital at LLCC: “Reduced, Reused, Recycled”

 “Reduced, Reused, Recycled: Conserving our Musical Heritage” is the next concert in the Lincoln Land Community College Recital Series.  The public is invited to the free concert Sunday, April 22, at 4:00 p.m. in the Trutter Center on the main campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.

Featured artists are Laura LaCombe on violin, Bill Zimmer on viola, Sue Anders on cello, Andrew Tinge on string bass and Beverly Holmes on piano.

Laura LaCombe has taught violin and orchestra at Lincoln Land as an adjunct since 1995. She studied violin at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music under Walter Levine.  She is a member of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and the Millikin/Decatur Symphony Orchestra, and is the business manager and a founding member of the Lincoln Land String Quartet.

Bill Zimmer is a local physician who plays violin and viola as a hobby. He studied violin initially at the University of Nebraska as an undergraduate, and violin and viola in more recent years. He has played with the Lincoln Land Community College Orchestra since 1985, and plays in various orchestras in central Illinois.  He particularly enjoys playing chamber music, and has studied chamber music at various symposia in the United States and Europe.

Sue Anders began her cello studies as an adult. She plays cello with the Lincoln Land Community College Orchestra as well as several informal groups. She is employed as a paralegal with the State of Illinois.  She earned a B.A. degree from Sangamon State University and an M.A. degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield.

Andrew Tinge is an adjunct faculty member at LLCC, teaching bass and electric bass.  His studies include undergraduate studies at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, graduate studies at St. Louis Conservatory and the Lemins Institute in Belgium.  He has been a member of the Illinois Symphony since 1984, and has performed and done studio and freelance work in New York, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland and many other locations in the continental United States. 

Beverly Holmes, professor of music, came to Lincoln Land in 1995. She earned a B.M. in piano and flute performance with educational certification, and an M.M. in flute performance from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Her Ed.D. is from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She has played with the Meadowbrook School of Music Orchestra under James Levine, and in the Detroit Women's Symphony. She taught piano and flute at Mississippi Valley State University, chaired the Department of Fine Arts and Music at Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas, and served as assistant dean of Fine Arts at Eastern Illinois University. She continues to be active in chamber music performance and in support of community arts.
