Professional academic advisors and counselors are available to explain the requirements of Lincoln Land’s many programs and assist in decision-making related to the following:

• Selecting semester courses
• Planning a program of study
• Preparing for transfer
• Setting goals for future learning
• Finding academic support resources.

The time you spend with your academic advisor or counselor is invaluable! As a student, you will undoubtedly have many questions about your academic program, career options, and transfer schools. The advisors and counselors at LLCC are here to help you, but we do expect you to take an active role in your educational planning.  If you are planning on seeing an advisor or counselor for information pertaining to class selection, program requirements, career options, transfer schools or personal issues, please review the following tips to make sure your session goes smoothly and that your time is well spent.

Whether you are coming in on a walk-in basis or for a scheduled appointment, it is important that you know your program requirements and to review the courses that are available and have a schedule in mind if you are planning on registering. If you are coming in for general information, please review your program requirements. If you are transferring from another college or university, it is your responsibility to have your official transcripts sent to LLCC via U.S. Mail.

Even if you are not yet sure about your major or program of study, it is important to know what you want to get out of the session. Please have some idea of the types of questions you want to ask and what your goals are for the time you are meeting with an advisor. While we can help you to get the session started by addressing your questions and concerns, it will help us help you if you know what your goals are for the session.

At times, you will find that you will have to wait to see an advisor or counselor due to it being a busy time of year. During your wait, you can do several things to expedite your time with your advisor once you meet with them:

• Review your program of study and use your catalog or WebAdvisor to do a degree audit to determine what courses you have left to take.
• Review the schedule of classes for the next semester; plan your schedule of classes while you are waiting.
• Fill out your registration form (if needed) while you are waiting.
• Fill out an add/drop form  (if needed) while you are waiting.
• Please know how you are going to pay for classes and when the tuition due date is for the semester. If you have not seen Financial Aid and you need to, please do so before seeing an advisor/counselor.
• Please be respectful of others and turn off your cell phone while waiting; if you must take a call,  please step out of the lobby to take the call. Please do not text or use your phone during your session with your advisor/counselor.

We understand that your family can be a great support to you during your time as a student at LLCC; however, our philosophy is that you need to make your own decisions regarding classes, goals, and objectives. Although family members can share information during the session, the advisor/counselor will be directing his or her questions to you.

Please note that unless you sign a release of information for your family member(s), we are unable to release any information to them regarding your academic records per the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974.

Ultimately, our goal is to help you succeed, that includes teaching you how to become proficient in understanding your program guidelines, course requirements, and how to register.
