CHI 101 Elementary Chinese I

4 credits

The first course in a four-course sequence that develops understanding, speaking, reading and writing of the Chinese language. This course is intended for students who have little or no knowledge of Chinese. In addition to a strong emphasis on oral communication, the course acquaints students with the culture and contemporary life in the countries where Chinese is spoken. Correct pronunciation is necessary for comprehension and is stressed. R, W1 (3 lecture hours and 2 laboratory hours)

CHI 102 Elementary Chinese II

4 credits

The second course in a four-course sequence that develops understanding, speaking, reading and writing of the Chinese language. This course is intended for students who have some knowledge of Chinese. In addition to the strong emphasis on oral communication, the course acquaints students with the culture and contemporary life in the countries where Chinese is spoken. Correct pronunciation is necessary for comprehension and is stressed. (3 lecture hours and 2 laboratory hours)
Prerequisite: CHI 101 with a minimum grade of C

CHI 201 Intermediate Chinese I

4 credits

This is the third course of the four-course sequence of the Chinese course series. In addition to the strong emphasis on oral communication, the course acquaints students with the culture and contemporary life in the countries where Chinese is spoken. Correct pronunciation is necessary for comprehension and is stressed. (3 lecture hours and 2 laboratory hours)
Prerequisite: CHI 102 with a minimum grade of C

CHI 202 Intermediate Chinese II

4 credits

This is the fourth course of the four-course sequence of the Chinese course series. By completion of this semester, students would have the knowledge of reading, understanding, writing and speaking of the Chinese language. More than the previous three courses, this course emphasizes strongly the history, culture and contemporary Chinese societies. (3 lecture hours and 2 laboratory hours)
