Carolyn Owen Sommers : "True Colors"
The James S. Murray Gallery presents, “True Colors”, the watercolor art of Carolyn Owen Sommer from September 24th to October 11th. Carolyn is an active member in the Sangamon Watercolor Society, the Prairie Art Alliance, as well as the St. Louis Watercolor Society. Her prizewinning paintings have been shown throughout the Midwest.
Carolyn is a teacher as well as an artist. She has taught classes for Lincoln Land Community College’s Community Education as well as programs as diverse as the Boy Scouts of America and the Easter Seals Leisure Resource. She has worked with children, adults, seniors, and the visually impaired, sharing her love of art. Carolyn also takes time to be a student, improving on her craft by attending various workshops held by well-known artists.
Carolyn infuses the everyday with a sense of wonder through her liberal application of color. As a Springfield artist she enjoys using Midwestern scenery as her subject matter although her paintings reveal a penchant for travel, adding a touch of the exotic.
The artist will give a lecture about her work on Thursday, October 4th, at 4:30 in Menard Hall, Room 2207. The lecture will be followed by a reception with music, at 5:30 in the gallery.
The gallery will be open to the public Monday through Friday 8am – 4pm on the second floor of Menard Hall at Lincoln Land Community College.
