“The Life and Legacy of Jim Murray”
An exhibit entitled “The Life and Legacy of Jim Murray” will open Wed., Nov. 28 in the gallery named in his honor at Lincoln Land Community College.
A reception and sale of 34 of his original sketches will be held the following Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the gallery. Refreshments will be served. All proceeds will benefit the James S. Murray Scholarship for LLCC students majoring in the arts and humanities.
Mr. Murray served the college from 1968 to 2000. In 2001, the James S. Murray Gallery on the upper level of Menard Hall was dedicated to recognize his contributions as a founding faculty member, master teacher, Professor Emeritus, artist and friend of the college. In addition to his work with LLCC students, he served as a courtroom artist, acted in and directed numerous local theatre productions, and served on a variety of boards of directors. He was the recipient of a Mayor’s Award for the Arts in 1989.
The James S. Murray Scholarship was established within the LLCC Foundation by his wife, Ellen, along with family and friends.
The exhibit is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through Dec. 14.
