Why do we need to do assessment?
Assessment is a key component of instruction as it determines whether the goals of education are being met. It affects decisions about instructional methods, learning activities, the level of critical thinking students are experiencing, instructional needs, curriculum design, and, in some cases, funding. Assessment inspires faculty to ask: “Are we teaching what we think we are teaching?” “Are students learning what they are supposed to be learning?” “Is there a way to teach better, thereby promoting better learning?”
