Coach Jones is heading into his ninth season at the helm of the Loggers. The Loggers have been one of the Mid-West Athletic Conference’s top teams the last three years. They have averaged 19 wins a season the last five years under Coach Jones, and have won 20 or more games three times in that period. The Loggers recorded the schools first ever back to back 20 win seasons in 2004-2006, with the 2004-05 campaign equaling the school record of 22 wins. During those two seasons the Loggers were consistently in the national rankings being ranked as high as 7th in the nation. The Loggers have been noted for their defense, consistently ranking in the top ten nationally the last four seasons, with the nations #1 defense in the 2008-09 season. The Loggers have placed 25 players at four year schools, and have produced 5 academic All-Americans while under the leadership of Coach Jones. Chad is a 1993 graduate of Canton High School. He played junior college basketball at nationally ranked Danville Area Community College. He then took his play to Western Illinois University, where he spent two years as a member of the Leatherneck basketball team. After graduating, he spent one season as an assistant coach at Canton High School before going back to Western to spend two seasons as an assistant coach. After leaving Western, Chad went to Danville and spent one season as an assistant coach and helped recruit and lead the team to a 4th place finish in the nation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business education and a master’s degree in sport management. Both degrees are from Western Illinois University. Coach Jones served as the Men’s Basketball chair person for the Mid-West Athletic Conference from 2003-2007. Coach Jones is married to Nichole (Mann), whom he met while a student at Danville and they have a son, Josh (4).

Assistant Coach Jim Augenstein
Coach Augie begins his 6th season with Coach Jones and the Lincoln Land program. Coach has used his southern Illinois roots to present the opportunities Lincoln Land has to offer student athletes. Coach has developed many contacts throughout his twenty-three years of involvement with the game of basketball. Coach has spent years involved in athletic administration and broadcasting as well as coaching for 13 seasons. This has given him the opportunity to present the strengths of Lincoln Land Community College from Chicago to Cairo.
Coach and his wife MariEtta (Hirtzel) came to the Springfield area from Effingham, Illinois in 2003. They reside in Athens with their 17 year-old son Derrik. Coach is a graduate of Lincoln Land and knows first hand the opportunities a degree from Lincoln Land can present. He is also a member of the adjunct faculty. This allows him to maintain contact with other instructors and the student athletes throughout the pursuit of their degree. “Augie handles nearly all of the recruiting for our program. Without his relentless work and dedication our program would not be where it is today. In addition to being our primary recruiter, Coach Augie brings a wealth of basketball experience to the team. We are very fortunate to have him at Lincoln Land” said Coach Jones.

Coach Tierney begins his second season on the Lincoln Land sideline. Skylar is a 2002 graduate of Williamsville high school where he was a standout on the boy’s basketball team. After graduating from Williamsville, Skylar attended Lincoln Land Community College where he was a member of the mens basketball team for two seasons. Skylar graduated from Mac Murray College in 2008 with a degree in Educational Studies. From 2004–2006 Coach Tierney was an assistant varsity basketball coach and head JV coach at Athens High School. In 2006 he was named the head coach at Athens, a position he held for two seasons before joining the Loggers coaching staff this year. “For such a young coach, Skylar brings a tremendous amount of knowledge to the table. Coach Bryant begins his first season with the Lincoln Land Men’s Basketball program. Matt is a 2004 graduate of Pleasant Plains high school where he was a member of the 2002 state championship team and was on the 2004 team that made it to the Sweet 16. After graduating from Pleasant Plains, Matt attended Lincoln Land Community College where he was a member of the men’s basketball team for two seasons. The team had back to back 20 win seasons and was ranked 7th in the nation. After graduating from Lincoln Land, he attended St. Ambrose University, where he earned his degree in Sports Management. Matt returned to Lincoln Land in 2008, as the assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. Matt is a certified Cross Fit trainer. His primary responsibilities will include player development and strength training and conditioning.
