Caribbean Cuisine

Taste the Adventure of Caribbean Cuisine

This exclusive trip joins entertainment and education, having the two fold purposeJaguar Reef Lodge of experiencing a variety of cultural dishes unique to the Caribbean coupled with the opportunity for hands on culinary instruction by the head chef of Jaguar Reef Lodge and Spa located in Hopkins, Belize.

During the course of the week we will have the opportunity to explore a variety of cultural dishes.  Head Chef, Denfield Christian, will be teaching us how to prepare a traditional Belizean lunch, authentic Jamaican dinners as well as a variety of Guatemalan dishes.  Ms. Joycelyn Flores will teach us how to use the same techniques that have been implored by the Mayan and Garifuna cultures that have sustained their traditional way of life for thousands of years.  Cooking styles and dishes may vary depending on the availability of ingredients.

The week will also include a variety of cultural activities that will give participants the chance to explore the wonders of Belize.  We will be exploring the southern Mayan ruins of Labantuun, the largest Mayan site in the southern part of Belize now made famous by the crystal skull discovery.  An afternoon will be spent touring the Cockscomb Wildlife Basin made famous by Alan Rabinowitz and his work with jaguars in Cockscomb Wildlife Basin.

Several of our afternoons will be spent shopping at the local markets in Hopkins and Dangriga in order to obtain the freshest ingredients necessary for our Caribbean Cuisine.
