This seminar provides and update and overview on the pathophysiology of cancer–how it starts, how it spreads, the role of oncogenes, the role of the environment (viruses , hormones, chemicals, etc.) as well as many other facts and tidbits about the growth and differentiation of cells. The latest advances in treatment will be discussed–PRECISION medicine is the name of the game. Genetic markers play a huge role in considering treatment regimens. Find out how Katie Couric and two friends changed the entire field of cancer therapies by starting the Stand Up to Cancer movement. Understand the use of tumor markers for prognosis and diagnosis. Discuss the role of cancer vaccines. Barb will also discuss specific cancers and their current treatments — breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, brain tumors, and GI cancers. It’s an exciting time in the world of cancer diagnosis and therapy–why? Because a cure is within reach of many cancers…and new therapies are coming out daily. DON’T GIVE UP!
