Throw out most of what you have learned about diabetes and attend this comprehensive update on this complex disease. Barb discusses the pathophysiology of diabetes, focusing on the autoimmune nature of type 1 diabetes and the complicated pathophysiology with eight basic defects underlying type 2 diabetes. Barb will correlate the ten classes of drugs used to treat diabetes correlated with the underlying pathophysiology. A discussion of early onset “aggressive” type 2 diabetes will be discussed in young adults aged 15-30. Prevention and treatment of complications will also be covered. This is a diabetes lecture that you have never heard before and one that you will never forget–it’s complicated, treatable, and in many instances, preventable.
