Physical Assessment Pearls

Late fee of $20 is applicable for registrations received after August 25, 2014.

Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations must be made ten business days before the start of the course. If cancellation is made in less than ten business days, the full course feel will be billed.


Physical Assessment: If you only have 5 minutes
Your patient is having chest pain...what should you do to rapidly assess this patient? Is the patient male, female? What is her/his age? Are there co-morbidities? These are quick questions to ask, quick assessment techniques. So your patient is having a headache...what should you do to rapidly assess this patient? Is it a migraine? Tension headache? Coffee-withdrawal headache? Barb will guide you through assessment basics - listening to hearts and lungs, a quick neuro exam and abdominal assessment. After Barb has given you the techniques of assessment, she will then take you through a differential diagnosis for various acute symptoms-chest pain, dyspnea, abdominal pain, patient characteristics, disease processes and more.  


Program Content:

1.   Discuss the importance of taking a thorough history.

2.   Describe the PQRST mnemonic for characterizing the cheif complaint.

3.   Demonstrate the use of the various types of equipment used for the physical assessment exam.

4.   Discuss the general components of the physical exam.

5.   Interpret the findings of the virtal signs.

6.   Describe the exam techniques used for significant components /systems of the physical examination.

7.   Correlate the clinical findings with common clinical conditions.

Continuing Education Credit:

Lincoln Land Community College (OH-357, 2/1/2016) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Nurses: This continuing nurses education (CNE) activity is being offered for 5.5 contact hours.
