The Massage Therapy program, offered in connection with Body Biz Inc., is a 768-hour course designed to teach students how to be massage therapists.  This full-time intensive course covers various massage modalities, business and the therapeutic relationship, and applied sciences of anatomy & physiology, kinesiology, and pathology, modalities like Swedish massage, chair massage, sports massage, pregnancy massage, cranial sacral therapy, thai massage, special techniques, neuromuscular therapy and advanced massage techniques.  Students will also have the opportunity to work on the public in the Student Massage Clinic and through the outreach program. 

 

The Massage Therapy program is 2 semesters.  Student Clinic meets in the afternoons, 1 afternoon weekly, 1:30p-5:30p, on Mondays.  Classes meet Monday through Friday, 6p-10p.  The program will be held at the Capital City Training Center, located at 130 West Mason Street in Springfield


Program Entrance Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED

Criminal background checks are not performed as a prerequisite to this class, but are necessary prior to licensure by the Illinois Department of Federal and Professional Regulations.  Contact IDFPR at 217.785.0800 for more information.

Individuals should give careful consideration to the physical demands of the program prior to registration.  It is essential that Massage students be able to perform a number of physical activities in the modalities classes and in the clinical portion of the program.  At a minimum, students will be required tos tand for several hours at a time and to bend and move constantly.  At times they will be required to carry and set up a massage table.


Upon completion of this 768 hour course, students qualify to sit for the National Certification Exam (NCE), presented by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) and can then apply for licensure through the State of Illinois

Fees include tuition, materials, and professional association membership to the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP).  Students may be required to complete CPR & First Aid, in accordance with the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Massage Therapy licensing requirements, in addition to the Massage Therapy Diploma Program.  Fees for NCE ($175) & Illinois Licensure ($175) are not included.

Criminal background investigations are mandatory for candidates for licensure by IDFPR. Contact the IDFPR at (217) 785-0800 for more information. Felony convictions may severely limit clinical placements and/or job opportunities in the field.

As a two semester, 768 hour program, this course teaches the fundamentals of massage, professional development, and various massage modalities. Student practice the learning while networking with the community in the Student Massage Clinic.  All courses are taught by industry professionals.  Fall courses start in August with graduation scheduled for May 2011.
