The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, P.O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD 20824-1220. AOTA's phone number is (301) 652-AOTA. Graduates of the program are eligible to write the national certification examination for the occupational therapy assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Following successful completion of this exam, the individual will be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). Most states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT certification examination.
Lincoln Land Community College and the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program recognize that accreditation status represents a promise of quality to the students, the college, the community, and the profession of occupational therapy.
For the past three year period (2006-2008), 35 individuals have graduated from the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. Of the 35 graduates, 34 students elected to take the NBCOT Examination. Of the 34 test takers, all 34 successfully completed the exam on their first attempt. The pass rate for first-time test takers for the past three year period (2006-2008) is 100%. To date, a total of 91 students have successfully completed the program. The pass rate on the National Certification Examination since the inception of the program in 1998 is 100% for first-time takers.
