Radiography Program

Radiography is the medical profession that uses x-rays to make images of the structures of the body.  Related imaging modalities include computed tomography, angiography, magnetic resonance imaging, and mammography.  Radiography is a specialty within the field of radiologic technology, along with diagnostic medical sonography, nuclear medicine, and radiation therapy.  The educational program at LLCC is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, 20 North Wacker Drive, Suite 2850, Chicago, IL 60606, (312) 704-5300.  Students completing the program are awarded an Associate in Applied Science degree in Radiography and are eligible to apply for examination by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.  The program combines classroom instruction and clinical practice in radiography as established by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.

We receive numerous inquiries regarding education leading to credentialing as a Registered Sonographer. Lincoln Land Community College does not offer a sonography program.  For information on accredited sonography programs:

  • vist www.caahep.org
  • click on "Find an Accredited Program"
  • use the drop-down menu "Profession Name" and choose Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
  • choose Concentration - All
  • you may search by state or the entire country.

Please be aware that most sonography programs require the applicant to be a radiographer or other health care practitioner in order to qualify for admission. However, since admission requirements vary by program, be sure to examine the requirements for each program in which you are interested.

TOTAL HOURS REQUIRED: 69

Students will be involved in more than 1,500 contact hours of clinical experience during the two-year program. National certification as a radiographer requires the graduate to pass the examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. In addition, many states, including Illinois, require the graduate to hold a license to practice medical radiography.

Radiography students must earn a grade of C or higher in all courses with a prefix of RAD and HLT. Students who earn below a C in any of these courses will be immediately dropped from the program. Students have the right to apply for readmission to the program based on space availability. In the case of readmission, credit will be allowed for courses previously completed with a grade of C or higher; some courses may need to be repeated. Only one re-admission is allowed.
