Events

While in the Honors Program at Lincoln Land Community College, there are many events and activities available for students to enjoy. Below you'll find just a few of the events the honors students will have a chance to take part in.

Retreats

At the beginning of each fall semester, the Honors Program students have the chance to join in on a weekend of fun, on the Honors Program Fall Retreat. This retreat gives the students a chance to get to know each other and the faculty while having fun in a relaxing environment. On the fall retreat, students will be able to participate in cookouts, recreational activities including swimming, basketball, frisbee, and hiking, and water bottle rockets, and even a few activities to get better acquainted with each other.

The Honors Program also gets a chance to get away in the spring, with the Honors Program Spring Retreat! While the Fall Retreat offered students a chance to get to know each other, the Spring Retreat gives the students a chance to get away from it all and just have fun, escaping the busy times of the college campus.

C.O.P.E.

As part of the leadership course SOC 112, the honors students participate in COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience). COPE consists of a two day confidence and teams building activities. The first day is the “low course,” where everything is close to the ground.  This day is focused on building team skills and trust within the group. Day two involves the high course (including the infamous Burma bridge and the ever popular zip-line). The events of the second day focus on overcoming one's self and reaching higher goals. The trip truly does bring students together not only on the challenges, but in the classroom long after the trip is over.

Club Activities

The Honors Club has organized a range of activities. Some of these are dedicated to fundraising (cookie stall and garage sales) and some to spending the money raised. In recent years students have been canoeing on the Current River, attended shows in the area and ventured all the way to the bright lights of Chicago. The activities each year, however, depend greatly on the students. It's you who makes the program what it is!
