Lincoln Land Community College’s student-run café, Bistro Verde, located in the state-of-the-art Workforce Careers Center, is now open to the public for lunch two days per week.
The community is invited to enjoy casual bistro dining prepared and served by LLCC culinary, baking, pastry and hospitality students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Reservations are required, and may be made by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 786-2821.
Nancy Sweet, LLCC culinary operations manager, said the students are taught and supervised by an experienced team of professional culinary instructors. “The café schedule is directly tied to two of our culinary classes on dining room operations and food production. The classes emphasize providing diners with high quality food and service in order to create a successful and memorable dining experience. Students learn what it truly means to run and manage a restaurant by performing a variety of roles, gaining practical experience in a restaurant setting.”
LLCC offers associate degree programs in culinary arts and hospitality management and academic credit certificates in culinary arts and baking/pastry. Community members are also invited to participate in non-credit food and wine classes and dinners through the college’s Culinary Institute.
The casual bistro menu prepared by students includes starters such as Verde salad, minestrone, charcuterie plate and a student choice special; entrees such as a local beef burger on pretzel bun; BLT with kale, tasso ham and smoked shrimp; trout stuffed with shrimp; and farotto; and a variety of specialty desserts. Beginning March 27, the atmosphere and lunch menu will convert to fine dining.
Diners may pay by cash, debit or credit cards. In lieu of tips, guests are asked to share thoughts on their dining experiences and ideas for students via comment cards.
Note: LLCC is closed March 8-16 for mid-semester break. The final day for lunch dining during the spring semester will be April 24.
