2/2-J.R. Martinez bring message of resilience to campus Feb. 20 |
The Multicultural Awareness Center invites you to hear J.R. Martinez’s Story of Resilience, Perseverance and Optimism on Mon., Feb. 20, noon -1pm in the Trutter Center.
Due to the limited number of seats for this event, tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis to LLCC students, faculty and staff only. This event is not open to the public. To make a ticket reservation request, LLCC students, staff and faculty must contact Donna.Gram@llcc.edu or 786-2789.
J.R. Martinez, football player, soldier, Iraq war veteran and burn trauma survivor, learned that sharing his story and listening to other injured veterans’ stories helped them recover more quickly. His life changing experience helped him discover that it is what is inside a person that matters most and devotes himself to showing others the true value in making the most of every situation! He is now a motivational speaker spreading his message of resilience and optimism. Since 2008, he has acted the role of combat veteran, Brot Monroe, on ABC’s Emmy Award winning daytime drama “All My Children”. He and his dance partner were the winners of the 2011 season’s “Dancing with the Stars”. You are invited to attend as J.R. brings his story to LLCC! |

2/2 - Special Needs Office A-Team (Autism or Asperger’s Team) meeting Feb. 7 |
The A-Team (Autism or Asperger’s Team) is meeting Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2-3pm in Sangamon 0105 (next to the Special Needs Office in the Learning Lab). The A-Team (autism team or Asperger's Team) is an informal social mentoring group that meets frequently on the Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) campus. A-Team members are a flexible and diverse group of individuals, including students on the autism spectrum, faculty, staff, study skills specialists, education students, campus security, and other individuals who wish to participate. The A-Team is a nonhierarchical group, based on common interests and mutual respect. The purpose of the A-Team is to provide opportunities for social development, diversity awareness, and to discuss any issues put forth by the members. This is a great opportunity for individuals in the LLCC community to foster their intellectual enlightenment, enhance their social understanding, and learn to embrace neurodiversity. |
