Many people are aware of Lincoln Land Community College and its main campus in the southeast part of Springfield. Did you know LLCC also has a center located in the downtown Springfield area?  Did you know this center offers mentoring and consulting, solutions-based training, and training for professional development?

A bit of history: the Capital City Training Center opened at 130 W. Mason in 1998, focusing on contract training services for business and industry. Open-enrollment computer classes for business, industry and governmental agencies were, and still are, part of the services offered.

Over the years, the Capital City Training Center has evolved to include health care training programs to meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals in this field. These programs are for individuals looking to obtain skills necessary to gain employment, enhance skills for job promotions or to start a new career.  Programs include pharmacy technician, phlebotomy, dental assistant and massage therapy.

The pharmacy technician program is a 105-hour, non-credit course that covers various pharmacy practice settings, daily pharmacy operations, drug classes and interactions, pharmacy math, basic physiology and the requirements and topics for the certification exams.

The phlebotomy program is a 160-hour, non-credit course designed to prepare individuals for entry-level competencies as phlebotomists. Phlebotomists are skilled healthcare professionals who have been trained to collect, transport, handle and process blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis using venipuncture and micro-collection techniques. Included in this program is a four-week externship. Upon completion, students are prepared to work as phlebotomists and are eligible to take the national certification exam.

Our dental assistant program prepares students to take on significant responsibility as a member of the dental health care system.  Dental assistants are responsible for preliminary examination procedures, assisting chair-side using four-handed dentistry, charting  appointment scheduling, keeping patient records, sterilizing instruments and various lab techniques. Included in this program is a four-week externship.

The massage therapy program is a 650-hour, non-credit course designed to prepare individuals to become massage therapists. This full-time, intensive course covers massage theory and fundamentals, ethics, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathology, nutrition and diet therapy, and business practices.  Students learn to complete a full-body, Swedish massage, and become familiar with massage for special populations. Each student is required to complete supervised, full-body massages with volunteer clients in a clinical setting.

LLCC’s Capital City Training Center is open year-round and available to assist employers, employees, and individuals looking to gain or enhance job skills.  More information is available by visiting www.llcc.edu/cctc or by calling 217.782.7436.
