Greg Walbert, ornament designer; Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC president; Terri Hempstead, St. Joseph’s Home director of development; Sr. Lenore Highland, St. Joseph’s Home administrator; Dennis Shackelford, chair of the LLCC Board of Trustees; Springfield Mayor Jim Landfelder at the press conference unveiling the 207 City Ornament, which honors LLCC’s 50th anniversary.
For 25 years, the “Official City Ornament” has been a beloved Springfield holiday tradition. From Ossie Langfelder to Jim Langfelder, each Springfield mayor has participated in the unveiling of the annual ornament which is a fundraising project to support St. Joseph’s Home of Springfield and another local charity.
In honor of Lincoln Land Community College’s 50th anniversary, the 2017 ornament celebrates a half-century of community college education in this district.
Each year a local artist is invited to design the ornament. The first ornament depicted the Old State Capitol. Over a quarter of a century, the collectible ornaments have featured images such as Lincoln’s Home, The Dana-Thomas House, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Lincoln’s tomb, Lincoln Memorial Gardens, the Carillon, the Springfield Art Association and the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
For the fourth time, St. Joseph’s Home has partnered with Greg Walbert, graphic design manager at LLCC, to design the collectible ornament. Walbert’s previous ornaments in the series featured the Lincoln Presidential Library, Lincoln Presidential Museum, and Union Station.
