Lincoln Land Community College will honor veterans at its 23rd annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 12. The reception begins at 1 p.m., followed by the ceremony at 1:30 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons on the LLCC-Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road. The public is invited to attend.
The American Legion Post 759 Color Guard will post the colors. The program also includes LLCC Trustee Dennis Shackelford serving as master of ceremonies, LLCC student Corporal Nathaniel Mayfield, U.S. Army, providing remarks and LLCC alumni Kevin Kulavic playing “Taps.”
A piece from the World War I commemorative exhibit, ““Have You Forgotten Yet?: 100 Years Since the Armistice,” will be on display at the ceremony. The full exhibit will be available for viewing in the college’s James S. Murray Gallery. It is a commemorative display of artifacts and photos from the extensive collection of Chris McDonald, Ph.D., LLCC professor of political science and World War I historian. The exhibit also includes photography by Elizabeth Roehrs, LLCC alum, who participates in local World War I re-enactment groups. The gallery is located on the upper level of Menard Hall.
The Veterans Day Ceremony is sponsored by LLCC Student Life and honors all veterans including LLCC faculty, staff and students who served in the armed forces.
