SPRINGFIELD—Lincoln Land Community College-Jacksonville will host a special program next week called “Suicide Awareness and Prevention, Signs and Symptoms.” The presentation on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 9 a.m. is free and open to the public. It will take place in room 1115 at LLCC-Jacksonville, 32 North Central Park Plaza.
The presenter, Sarah Bye, is a recovery specialist with the Morgan County Mental Health Department’s psychiatric response team. She will help attendees be more aware of suicide risks and symptoms and armed with the knowledge to help prevent it.
Bye will discuss how college is a major life change and can bring on depression. She will share statistics, outline the warning signs to look for in individuals, including key phrases they may say; and discuss resources, such as hotlines.
