An education doesn’t just happen, it is built. Day by day, class by class, students work toward completing each semester. Every paper turned in and each test taken serve as building blocks to reaching that final goal: a degree. Contrary to popular belief, an education starts long before reaching the classroom. A strong foundation is needed to support your education. At Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC), that foundation is created in Student Services.
Gathering the Materials
To create a foundation for education success, there are several steps that you must take. Completing the LLCC admission worksheet is the first step. LLCC is an open-admission college. There is no fee to complete the admission worksheet and no obligation to attend classes. Completing the worksheet gives you the ability to start to explore LLCC’s many services.
It is also helpful to send your high school (and other college) transcripts right after being admitted. Classes on these transcripts may serve to meet prerequisites for some of your LLCC classes, saving you time and expense while completing your degree.
Using the Proper Tools
Once you have completed your admission worksheet, you have a wide variety of tools available to you. LLCC’s academic advisors are available to assist you in creating an education plan that will outline the courses that you will need to complete your certificate or degree. Your meeting with your advisor will be one-on-one, giving you the opportunity to ask lots of questions.
Not sure exactly what you want to do? That’s OK, too! Our Career Development Services center can assist you with career assessment. You may also want to begin by taking some general education classes while you explore different interests and narrow down your choices. Don’t wait until you know for sure; get started and see where your interests take you.
Testing and Assessment is another great tool to assist in building your academic future. There is no fee for the test and you will gain a wealth of information about yourself and the classes that will be best for your success.
LLCC also offers a New Student Orientation. This event helps students to become acquainted with the campus and staff, and walks students through the LLCC systems. You will gain access to your email and other technical tools that will help you with registering and taking classes.
Overcoming Construction Blocks
For most people, the biggest obstacle to overcome when trying to attend college is the expense. LLCC students enjoy the lowest tuition rates in the area. Also, many of our students apply for and receive federal financial aid. Students may also apply for scholarships through our LLCC Foundation office.
