As a Lincoln Land Community College Foundation scholarship recipient, I am so thankful for the generous people who help make dreams happen for people like me. Their gifts are truly an investment in our futures.
Like many other people, I went to college after high school, unsure of what I really wanted to do with my career. An unexpected pregnancy led me to take a year off school, and then, life happened. Ten years, a wonderful husband, and two rowdy boys later, I was more than ready to do something for me. I decided I wanted to go back to school and become a nurse. I knew what I wanted, but the journey seemed daunting. After one semester of pre-requisite classes, we were happily surprised to find out that we were going to be having another baby! I finished the summer and fall semesters while expecting, took one semester off when I had a beautiful baby girl, and am now in the first semester of the nursing program.
As a mother, the guilt of taking time and money away from your family to pursue education is very real. The demands on resources for a single-income family of five are seemingly endless. Receiving a scholarship has literally paved the way for me to finally be able to better myself, have a career that I am proud of, help people in their time of need, and help support my family. Having a scholarship pushes me and gives me the motivation to work even harder to excel in college.
LLCC has an amazing nursing program with professors who go the extra mile to help students succeed. Every staff member I have come in contact with has been more than willing to help me in any way that I might need it. Having a resource like LLCC right here in our communities is a huge blessing! I am able to get the education I need right here at home.
I am beyond grateful for the donors who make these opportunities possible for me and other students. Their generosity has given me an opportunity in my life that I thought had passed me by, turning a dream into a reality. Having the financial burden of education lifted from my shoulders has given me the freedom to focus on what is important, my coursework.
I hope that scholarship donors understand the impact that their gifts have on the lives of many students in this area. I encourage new and current students to apply for scholarships!
The LLCC Foundation is currently accepting scholarship applications for the 2018-2019 academic year. Students considering or planning to attend LLCC beginning in fall 2018 are encouraged to apply. Deadline to apply is March 1.
LLCC Foundation scholarships are available for first-time and continuing students who will be enrolled full- or part-time at LLCC. Many of the scholarships are designed for students in any program of study, with the average award being approximately $1,000 per academic year. Only one application form is needed to apply for all scholarships. Students submitting a complete application are considered for all available scholarships for which they are eligible.
The online application is available at www.llccfoundation.org/scholarships.
Again, I am ever grateful for the investment by donors into LLCC students’ futures. Every act of kindness is like a ripple in a pond, and this influence and impact are reaching far beyond what you can see.
