The spring season is all about new beginnings. Winter begins to lose its grip as trees and flowers come back to life and a wide variety of animals awake from their dormancy. Although the spring season officially gets underway every March, the college calendar for the spring semester looks much different. The spring semester at Lincoln Land Community College begins in January and now is the time to begin planning for your spring classes.
I think there is a myth that the fall is the ideal, and only, time for people to go back to school. This may be largely attributed to the school calendars for elementary, middle and high schools. The summer draws to an end, the back-to-school advertisements begin to air, and the students are back in the classroom before we know it. However, one of the best things about taking classes at a community college is the freedom to take classes when you are ready, whether it be summer, fall or spring.
Although circumstances may be different, there are many common reasons why people choose to begin or continue their educational journey in the spring semester. For example, some high school students graduate in December and are eager to start their college career. For others, the reasons are centered around improving their career, whether it be taking courses toward a new degree or taking classes to enhance their current job.
Financial obligations and readiness is another common reason why some choose to wait until the spring semester. We all want to be good stewards of our financial resources and make sound decisions about how we fund our education, and a community college is a smart, affordable choice for helping the members of the community reach their educational goals. In my short time at Lincoln Land Community College, it has become clear to me that the college is invested in its students, and the faculty and staff are ready to help all students reach their goals.
Someone once told me that if you are serious about achieving your goal then the time to start is now. I have always considered that blunt, but helpful advice. Otherwise, we tend to keep pushing our start dates further and further away until we wake up one morning and realize how much time we have invested in other things outside of our goals. In fact, it is okay to acknowledge that there will always be other things vying for our attention.
Most of us have busy schedules, and the thought of going back to school may seem like just another thing to add to our hectic lives. With this in mind, some choose to start with only one or two classes while others choose to go full-time right away. Once again, everyone’s circumstance is different, so there isn’t a right or wrong way to approach your academic endeavors. Also, Lincoln Land Community College offers daytime and evening classes in addition to online course offerings. The college also has Outreach Centers in Beardstown, Jacksonville, Litchfield and Taylorville. With flexibility in class times and several locations, Lincoln Land Community College offers a high level of convenience to assist those with busy schedules.
Even though the weather is getting colder outside, the spring semester at Lincoln Land Community College is just around the corner and the time to start planning for it is now. It is never too late to start or continue your educational journey and I invite you to join us this spring.
