What are graduation and transfer-out rates?
Graduation and transfer-out rates are published in order to satisfy the requirements of the Student Right-to-Know legislation, and these rates are calculated according to uniform, federal guidelines. The graduation rate represents the percentage of first-time college students who (a) enrolled full-time at Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) during a specific fall term, (b) declared to be degree or certificate-seeking, and (c) graduated from LLCC within three years. The transfer-out rate is the percentage of these students who are known to have transferred to another college or university within that same three-year period (i.e., did not graduate from LLCC). The combined GRS rate measures the percentage of these students who graduated, transferred, or were still actively enrolled within three years.
What is important to know about these rates?
These rates do not include information about the majority of Lincoln Land Community College students. First-time full-time, degree/certificate seeking students represent only about 9% of all students enrolled at LLCC during the fall term.
Why aren’t LLCC’s three-year graduation and transfer rates higher?
Lincoln Land Community College is an open access institution. This means all who apply and can benefit from a program offered can enroll in LLCC coursework. Consequently many students must complete developmental courses to improve their academic skills before taking college-level courses. This coursework adds to the time it takes for them to either graduate or transfer. Additionally some students choose to start their careers prior to graduating, while others encounter personal, family, or financial issues that delay their education.
