College administrators follow a strict policy in determining whether to close the College due to inclement weather. Once the decision is made, the media is contacted and appropriate staff notified. Closings usually follow one of three scenarios:
Morning Closing If the weather conditions cause the closing of the College before the beginning of the class day, a decision will be made by 5:30 a.m. and an announcement of the closing will be called in to local radio and television stations for broadcast beginning at 6:00 a.m.
Evening Closing If severe weather causes the cancellation of evening classes (those starting after 5:00 p.m.), the decision to close will be made by 3:00 p.m., with announcements on the radio and television stations by 3:30 p.m. Signs will be posted around campus regarding the closing, and staff will be notified.
Immediate Closing If an immediate closing is necessary at any time during the day or evening, staff and students will be notified of the effective time of the closing, and announcements will be called in to local radio and television stations. Signs will be posted around campus.
