LLCC’s Workforce Development division to host Green Economy Community Forum Sept. 16

Lincoln Land Community College will host a Green Economy Community Forum the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 16 to promote green building practices and unveil a new, virtual Green Center.

LLCC’s Workforce Development and Community Education division will host the event at 9:00 a .m. in the Trutter Center on the main LLCC campus, 5250 Shepherd Road. The public is invited to attend, with reservations requested by calling 786.2407 or emailing darla.cochran@llcc.edu.

Keynote speaker will be Kindy Kruller of Delta Institute, a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional, on “New Opportunities through the Green Economy.” A panel discussion on how Illinois can benefit from the Green Economy will include Tim Davlin, mayor of Springfield; Jonathan Feipel of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity; Allan Anderson with the Springfield Area Home Builders Association; and Carrie Thomas of the Chicago Jobs Council.

The event will also feature the unveiling of the virtual Green Center Web site, which will be maintained by the LLCC Workforce Development division. The Green Center is designed to disseminate and provide education, training and information about green practices and resources.

LLCC is collaborating with the Illinois WorkNet Center, Springfield Urban League, Springfield Area Home Builders Association and Chicago Jobs Council on the Green Economy Community Forum.

The project is funded through grants from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Ameren Energy Efficiency Portfolio.
